About Us

Nestled in the center of Shockoe Bottom mid block of 17th street Richmond, VA. Addis is a picturesque walk across the street from Richmond’s iconic Farmer’s Market. It’s a modern, inviting structure and oversized windows provide a perfect outlook of Richmond’s lively 17th Street, complete with generous bar and restaurant seating.

Ethiopian cuisine is best known for its mixes and presentations of various seasoned meats, vegetables, and flavorful stews, served alongside a cultural stable bread injera. Addis’ menu features dishes from the traditional Ethiopian standards cooked by Genet, our world class traditional chef. Classic stables include Collard Greens Gomen and Miser Wot, red lentils seasoned with Ethiopian herbs. Meat and vegetable dishes, lamb, chicken, beef and meat and vegetable combinations. The ingredients simple yet with the unique and exotic seasonings, it will make for a meal like none other.

BERBERE

A popular Ethiopian seasoning prepared primarily from red chili but is sun-dried together with many other spices and herbs, then milled into powder form.

AWAZE

A paste of Berbere containing spices of garlic, ginger seasoned butter and liquor. It is used as a side dip for meats.

MITMIT

Spicy powder seasoning that contains chili pepper and the flovors of cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, cumin & ginger.

KIBE

Clarified butter that contains many herbs including cilantro, basil garlic, turmeric, cumin and many more. It is used in the majority of Ethiopian dishes.

AYIB

Mid Ethiopian cheese made from buttermilk

Thick sauce that is slowly cooked throughout the day.
